Talanoa of Mataisau

Fiji Island Voyaging Society in association with the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies at the University of the South Pacific have been undertaking a research project collecting Drua knowledge from the descendants of the Mataisau (hereditary boats builders) in the Southern Lau.

On Wednesday 30th November we are hosting an all day Talanoa of Mataisau descendants now living in Suva. At the conclusion of this Talanoa we will hold a presentation of findings at the Marine Studies Lecture Theatre at the Lower Campus beginning at 7 pm.

It is our objective to link our rich cultural maritime heritage with applications that can be of significant importance for developing models for inter-island commercial sailing ventures. We welcome you and your organisations to this important presentation.
